iPhone 2.0 software

So far Pandora Radio is great. The only downside is that you cannot listen to music if you leave the program, so you cannot read the news while listening to the radio, but that is a small complaint. cnet has much more on Pandora. Other apps vary considerably. I just have an old boring original iPhone, but the new software finally makes it a really wonderful device, without having to jailbreak it and bother with thwarting each new software update, something I never bothered with. We are still experiencing 4-5 hour waits for the new phone, so I’ll wait a bit. I’ll add my impressions for the other apps as I go through them.

Since AS is probably wondering how this post qualifies as a meaty read, I should say that I downloaded the ebook reader program, eReader and have started playing with it.  The software comes with two free books and the website includes some free content. At this point we cannot add outside content, such as from Project Gutenberg, so you’re stuck paying for the books. I might be wrong but the books seem expensive, certainly way more expensive than content for the Kindle and in some cases more expensive than books on Amazon. I’ll play around some more, but it doesn’t strike me as a great deal at this point. Still, simply having the program is a great addition.

A few other apps I’ve played with are the NYT news service, the AP news service, despite my misgivings about AP, and the new movies app. So far all seem fine and do just what’s advertised. A few trailers did not pop up in the movies app, but they might not be on youtube. It worked great otherwise. The bloomberg software seems good, but I’m not sure if the quotes are in real time. I will check when the markets are open Monday. The news and other services work as they should.

As for the free games, Morocco is okay. It is a version of othello/reversi but is too easy, even at its hardest settings. This is a shame because it is a great game. I’ll add more as I go along.
