Employers Blocking Websites

It is becoming increasingly common for employers to block various sites either due to productivity issues or because of bandwidth issues.  I think it is difficult to argue against blocking sites that are taking up a huge portion of a company’s bandwidth, costing significant amounts of money, and having virtually no professional function.  However, the blocking of entertainment sites seems to be another question.  People are glutton’s for news, entertainment or intellectual, and the randoming blocking of sites does not seem to be a beneficial policy.  I understand some may include some inappropriate content, and ones that are focused solely on that can be blocked without my condemnation, but most of them have a wide mixture that does not merit blocking entirely.  People will spend more time trying to find ways around it or similar stories on other less popular sites of the same nature that are not blocked.
